Lacrosse will soon be upon us. There are several important matters to cover as we begin to prepare for the season.
1. Players should be sure to have all necessary equipment. That includes gloves with black as the dominant color and forest green trim. It also includes a helmet with black as the dominant color and forest green trim. Our gloves and helmets must conform to these descriptions this season.
2. If players have not already done so, they should begin to get in lacrosse shape. This includes 1) “wall ball” 2) working out in the VHS weight training room, 3) running, both sprints (or repetitions climbing the stadium stairs) and road running. Players should be able to easily complete a 4 mile run by the beginning of February. 4) Stretching and other exercises to get you in lacrosse shape.
3. Some of you have asked about holding player - run practices. I strongly encourage you to do this. As you know, league rules prevent me or any other coach from coordinating and/or running these practices.
4. Players should be attentive to not engaging in activities that are likely to cause injury that will affect your ability to play lacrosse. While you should be active and get in shape, you should also exercise reason.
I am looking forward to this season very much. Because we graduated many seniors from last year’s team, I am often asked if this will be a “rebuilding year.” My response is that we haven’t lost anything, so there’s nothing to rebuild. We continue to have a committed group of lacrosse players. Though we will be looking to move returning players into spots left by last year’s seniors, we have a terrific group of returning players who are capable of making us even stronger in 2007.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about any part of this message or any other lacrosse matter.
Charley Rosenberry, Coach
