Congratulations To Coach Michael Hall

Michael Hall has been nominated and awarded Assistant Coach of the Year! Michael was selected and awarded this honor by his peers, all the other coaches in Division I. Michael will be presented with his award this Saturday, May 17th at the Washington State Lacrosse Finals between noon and 12:30pm. It would be great to have a good representation from Vashon Island to support Michael and cheer him on!

The High School State Championships are this weekend, Saturday, May 17, 2008 at Memorial Stadium in Seattle.

Admission price for the full day of events is $6 for students & adults, children ages 5 and under are free.

MLL In PDX

The MLL announced that the New Jersey Pride and the defending MLL Champion Philadelphia Barrage will play their final regular season game this summer at Hillsboro Stadium in Hillsboro, Oregon [30 minutes west of Portland] on Saturday, August 9th at 7:30 PM. This game will be the final event of MLL PDX, a week long festival featuring lacrosse activities all over the Portland area from Tuesday, August 6th until the MLL game on Saturday night, including the Youth and High School clinics. There have been some updates to this weekend’s jamboree schedule. Games now will be starting at 9:30 AM and rhe Vashon 7/8 team has their first game at 11:00 AM. Details are in 7-8 Team News.

7th-8th Jamboree Details

The WBYL 7th-8th Jamboree is this Saturday, May 10th, first game is at 9:30 AM. Read down for a complete schedule for the day. Vashon’s first game is 11:00 AM.

All games will be played at Game Farm Park in Auburn WA, 3030 R Street SE.; turf fields, not grass
Here are driving directions:
From I-5 or Hwy 167, take the Hwy 18 East. Take the Auburn-Enumclaw exit. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Auburn Way South. Continue south on Auburn Way. At the intersection of ‘M’ Street, be in the right hand lane to take Howard Road. At the end of the Howard Road, take a right onto ‘R’ St. SE. Continue through the light at 29th S.E. The park is on your left.

Game Format:
Each game will be 4 - 10 minute quarters, running clock, with a 5 minute half time.
Each team will have 2 time-outs per half. There will be no overtime in event of a tie.

After the Vultures varsity wrapped up their season with a big 8-7 win against the Garfield, there’s only one game this week - the Vultures JV completes their season at home, taking on the Garfield JV on Tuesday at 6:00 PM [start time was changed from 5:00].
The Vashon 7/8 team will be playing in the end-of-season jamboree on Saturday, first games start at 9 AM. Details are in 7-8 Team News.

Vultures Schedule Change

The Vultures varsity home game against Garfield has just been rescheduled to this Saturday, May 3 at 6 PM. This is their final home game and also Senior Night, a last time to see our Class of ‘08 members in action. The Vultures JV game is unchanged, they’ll play Garfield JV next week as originally scheduled.

The Vultures varsity and JV start off the week on the road, taking on Curtis at Curtis HS. JV begins at 5:30 pm and varsity faces off at 7:30 pm. Friday, it’s Mercer Island coming to Vashon Island for two big games. JV starts off at 5 pm and varsity will begin at 8:00 pm.
On Saturday, May 3 our Youth teams wrap up their seasons down in Tacoma. Vashon 7/8 Black plays Tacoma Black at 9 am, followed at 11 am by Vashon 7/8 Green taking on Tacoma White. The Vashon 5/6 team faces off against Tacoma 5/6 at 1 pm.

7-8 Green Schedule Change

The 7th-8th Green game for this Saturday has been canceled. The good news is the Team Coordinator called the Puyallup coach and we will play an extra quarter or half for the scheduled Black game. This will give everyone playing time. Sorry for the late notice, Green players and parents - please check our schedules and/or team e-mail for times and directions. See you on the boat!

7th-8th Jamboree Announced

Information regarding the May 10th Jamboree is starting to come out.

Vashon will take one combined team.

Location: Lake Tapps – they have two new turf fields.

It’s a double elimination tournament, games will be played for I hour only, the next game will start 15 minutes after previous game ends. This is pretty standard tournament play.

Start time is 9 am, Vashon will not be scheduled for the first game times (they understand ferry travel), the last game time is 5:45 pm.

The team will need a score keeper for each game.

There will be concessions and t-shirts for purchase at the tournament.

Team Coordinator Cathy West will send additional details later by team e-mail.

Vashon teams are away all week, starting with the Vultures JV playing Puyallup JV on Monday at 5 PM, game is at Emerald Ridge HS. The Vultures varsity travel to Puyallup on Tuesday, their game starts at 5 PM at the Heritage Rec Center.
The Vultures go next to Magnusson Park in Seattle, taking on Roosevelt. The JV plays on Thursday at 5:30PM and Varsity faces off on Friday, also at 5:30 PM.
More games in Puyallup on Saturday with the 7/8 Black team starting at 9 AM and the 5/6 team playing at 1 PM. The 7/8 Green team travels north to take on North Kitsap in an 11 AM game.
The Vultures varsity ends the week with a rescheduled game at Eastlake, face-off time is 7 PM.

The Vashon 7/8 teams went over to Seattle last weekend, with the Black team coming up with a big win against North Seattle. The Green team lost a tight game to Central Seattle. Next Saturday we have our last home games with University Place.

Spring Mentor’s Dinner

Thanks to everyone for helping to put on another successful Mentor/Mentee dinner. The Varsity Players really stepped up and did a great job interacting with the younger players.

Our next event will be a dessert party after the High School Vulture game on April 19th. Details will follow.

April 19th is also the last home game for the 5/6 players, game time is 1:00 at the VHS Soccer Practice Field, hope to see all our Varsity Mentors there.
